Culture Candle

$24.00

On January 1, 2022, St. Louis-based news anchor Michelle Li shared a segment on what Americans eat on New Year’s Day and added that she, and many Koreans, eat dumpling soup to celebrate the holiday. While some viewers thanked her for her inclusivity, one viewer called her station offended and said in a voicemail that Li was “being very Asian” and that she “can keep her Korean to herself.” Li shared the voicemail on social media, and soon received an outpouring of support. Gia Vang, a news anchor in Minneapolis, shared a post with Hmong foods and the hashtag #VeryAsian, and The Very Asian Foundation was born. (Source: The Very Asian Foundation website.)

The Very Asian Foundation “amplifies diverse AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) voices through education, storytelling, and community connection by raising money for organizations.” Chouteau Candle Co. founder Audrey is dedicated to supporting local non-profits, and as a half-Filipina woman, The Very Asian Foundation is a cause that is very close to her heart. For each purchase of a Culture Candle, we will donate $2 to The Very Asian Foundation.

The Culture Candle blends notes of ylang ylang, gardenia, and jasmine to create an earthy and floral fragrance. Top notes of citrus and plum give way to a base of warm amber and smooth sandalwood.

Estimated Burn Time: 50-60 hours
